Spokane Public Schools Foundation Awards Over $98,000 in Grants to Support Student Innovation and Success

Spokane, WA — The Spokane Public Schools Foundation (SPSF) is proud to announce the award of 56 grants totaling $98,380 to support innovative projects and programs that directly benefit students within Spokane Public Schools during the 2025/2026 school year. This year’s grant cycle includes the prestigious $5,000 Maureen Ramos Grant for Educational Innovation, recognizing exceptional creativity and commitment to educational excellence.

Since its formation in June 2006 by a group of dedicated community members, the Spokane Public Schools Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 in support of educators and students across the district.

Celebrating 20 Years of Impact—and Looking Ahead

This year marks 20 years of the Foundation enriching classrooms, empowering educators, and creating opportunities for students. As we look forward to the next 20 years and beyond, the continued strength of the Foundation depends on community support.

Tami McCraken, principal at North Central High School, says” North Central High School has benefited from the SPSF grants in 3 main aspects. First, creating an inclusive environment with supporting programs such as the multicultural book club and the Shades club. Second, providing students with academic opportunities beyond the classrooms with programs such as our civic engagement club. Third programs such as “The Den” supporting students when they need social and emotional support.

From safety swim programs for elementary students near the Spokane River, to glass art leadership opportunities for high schoolers at On Track Academy, and the creation of an interactive sensory path at Lidgerwood Elementary to support emotional regulation and sensory development, this year’s grant recipients exemplify the power of education when paired with local investment.

We Can’t Do It Without You

The Spokane Public Schools Foundation is fueled by the generosity of our community—through fundraisers, the Sustainers Circle, SPS staff payroll deductions, and pass-through giving that provides 501(c)(3) benefits.

To keep the Foundation going strong for another 20+ years, we invite individuals, families, and businesses to join us in supporting Spokane students.
